In 2012, the Beim Foundation awarded approximately 50 grants with a value of $455,000 under the Minnesota Legacy Program and the Regional Grant Program (formerly known as the Collaborative Grant Program).
In order to honor founder Nels Beim and his emphasis on education, a responsive Minnesota Legacy Program is available to nonprofits in the state. Under this program, the Beim Foundation supports college readiness for middle school and high school students and literacy programs for children, families and adults. In 2012, the Beim Foundation transitioned to a community-based philanthropy approach, based on the location of its Directors. This program, called the Regional Grant Program, is open to nonprofit organizations in the areas of human services, education, arts and the environment by invitation only.
